Waste Land was filmed over nearly three years. It follows the artist Vik Muniz in a journey that takes him from Brooklyn to his native Brazil. The location is Jardim Gramacho, the largest open landfill site in the world on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. The subject of the movie is group of men and women who work quietly among the mountains of waste. Vik Muniz together with the British director Lucy Walker documented people, who were able to create with their hands a work of art from the waste that they themselves have collected.
